Gerald Murphy, Class of 1967

Gerald Murphy grew up in the New Dorp section of Staten Island. As a young student, Gerry attended Our Lady Queen of Peace grammar school and continued his education just down the road at Monsignor Farrell High School.

While at Farrell, he enjoyed participating in bowling, golf and intramural basketball. An athletic teenager, Gerry also spent his winter days playing hockey. He graduated from Farrell in 1967.

Gerry would later go on to follow in his father's footsteps and join the New York City Police Department. On October 22, 1970, Patrolman Gerald Murphy was coming off duty when he observed a disturbance and immediately tried to intervene.

Patrolman Murphy was shot during the struggle and later died from his wound.  He was just 21 years old.
