Brian Cannizzaro, Class of 1988

Brian Cannizzaro was born in the Dongan Hills section of Staten Island in December of 1970. As a young student, he attended grammar school at St. Clare's and continued his education at Monsignor Farrell High School.

Brian graduated from Farrell in 1988 and went on to earn a degree in transportation and logistics from St. John's University. An exceptional athlete from childhood, Brian enjoyed playing all sports, including football and basketball. While in college, Brian was the president of his fraternity, he played on their football team, and he was the chairman of the student union.

Brian never held back.  His enthusiasm for life was boundless.  Brian would always give all of himself in his work, as a loving husband  or as a caring father to his young son Christopher. All who knew Brian remember him as a person who could command any room he walked into with a smile and a story. If Brian was going to do something, it was going to be big and nothing would be left on the sideline. Whether it was playing basketball at the YMCA, working out, fighting fires or proposing marriage, Brian never held back.

A time that his family and friends will remember as an example of him doing everything  possible to express how he felt, was the night he proposed to his future bride, Jacqueline O'Mara. After viewing the Broadway show "Beauty and the Beast" with both of their families watching from the balcony, Brian managed to have the Prince from the cast ask "the question'' on his behalf while Brian took to one knee, ring in hand. Anything less just would not do.

Brian Cannizzaro followed in his father's footsteps when he joined the New York City Fire Department in 1999. After graduating from the Fire Academy, he was assigned to Ladder 101 in Brooklyn.  Brian would subsequently rotate through two more houses, both in Brooklyn and Manhattan, before returning to the house he was originally assigned. On September 11, 2001, firefighter Brian Cannizzaro responded to the World Trade Center with Ladder 101. Brian and the members of his unit rushed to the South Tower just as the building was about to collapse. Firerfighter Brian Cannizzaro and six other members of Ladder 101 were killed when Tower 2 of the World Trade Center came down.

Just like every other moment  in his life, Brian gave all of himself.
